PRAYING AT HOME? HERE’S 6 SIMPLE WAYS ON HOW TO IMPROVE KHUSHU IN SALAH
Praying at home can be a little challenging. more so with the kids now at home. You are constantly worrying about what they are gonna break the second they are out of their sight. The noise! You just can’t concentrate on your Salah. As Muslims, the utmost importance of any ibadat is khusoo. It is the essence of Salah and without it your prayer becomes null.
Khusoo is when your heart, your thoughts are humbled towards and focused on no one but Allah (S.W). It is when you give Allah your undivided attention. So how can you do this when you are at unfavorable environment like when Aisha and khaleel are making it difficult or when your next door neighbor is playing loud music? Here are 6 simple ways that will help you achieve khusoo in Salah.
- Always remember that you are standing before Allah the greatest.
The moment you stand on your prayer mat, after iqamat and call upon Allah saying ‘Allahu Akbar’ know that Allah gives you undivided attention. Clear your mind and leave all matters concerning dunya. You are speaking to the supreme. He commands all your attention. Know that Allah is not in need of you but rather you are in need of him. He lacks nothing and that he is not short of praises.
- Know the meaning of what you recite.
During Salah you can only attain khusoo only if you know the meaning of the verses you recite. Knowing the meaning of Suratul fatiha which is recited in every Salah will aid you most especially if you do not understand the Arabic language. From rukuu to sujud knowing the meaning of whatever is said will help you reach greater heights in khusoo. Remember you are reciting the ayat before Allah make sure to concentrate and recite it beautifully.
- Remember that you can drop dead at any moment.
Did you know that the angel of death revolves 360 times on the face of the living? With this in mind pray as if it is your last as if the angel of death will come knocking on your door at any time.
- Remove anything that will distract you from your Salah.
Distractions are common. If you have little naughty kids, then you will know what I mean. Clear out anything that might pose as a distraction. If it’s the kids, then get somebody to look after them while you pray. Tell the people around you that you are going to pray to avoid distractions such as people knocking on your door. Dress modestly and comfortably to avoid clothes dropping down when you are praying. Turn of the gas or the oven or complete your cooking before praying.
- Pray in a room with little light.
Whenever I prayed in a room with little light I realized that I focus more and my concentration in Salah is increased. A room with little light serves as a reminder on the conditions in the grave. It makes one think of the harsh conditions in the grave enabling better concentration in Salah.
- Remember that all bows to Allah
Allah is not short of praises. All bows to Allah so who are you not to. From the inanimate to the living to the angels. Indeed, Allah is not short of praises and all glory and praise belongs to him.
I hope that these simple steps will help you attain khusoo in salah and may Allah grant you khusoo in Salah and accept our duas(Ameen)
