Why Men Die Earlier Than Women
We may have noticed early deaths in men than in women, but have we ever asked ourselves why it is so, and not the vice versa? Men are considered energetic, why die first? There must be reasons why the average lifespan of men is less than that of women.
According to statistics, on average, women live longer than men. 57% of all the ages 65 and older are female. By age 85, 67% are women. The average lifespan in men is 7 years less than that of women.
Reasons why men die first
Men have dangerous jobs
Men, unlike women, have risky occupations, that may be very dangerous to their lives. Some of the occupations include: firefighting, working at construction sites, military combats and many other occupations that may put their lives at risk.
Men take bigger risks than women
This is a biological reason, because the frontal lobe of the brain, that controls judgement and consideration of consequences of an action, develops more slowly in boys and young men than in their female counterparts. This contribute to the tendency toward lack of judgement, leading to detrimental lifestyle, among young men.
Men are less social
Men are less socially connected. People who have fewer and weaker social connections tend to have high death rates. They may have a problem but fail to share, and if it worsens, they become depressed and can even commit suicide.
The uneven playing field for boys start early
In men, the Y chromosome tends to develop mutations more often than the X chromosome, and lack of the second X chromosome means that X –linked abnormalities among boys are not masked by a second, normal version. Most men experience developmental disorders, that shorten their lifespan.
Men avoid doctors
Women have a tendency to visit the doctor, for routine screens, unlike men who normally skip this routine. Men avoiding medical care, puts their life at risk, for they may develop symptoms of depression and chronic medical problems, but fail to report. Hence they die.
You can be of help to a man by encouraging him to seek medical care. Regular checkups are essential to everyone, whether male of female.
avoid doctors. According to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, men are far more likely to skip routine health screens and far less likely than women to have seen a doctor of any kind during the previous year.
less reliable for male fetuses (for uncertain, and probably multiple, reasons). Developmental disorders are also more common among boys; some of these could shorten life expectancy
